Seminar on "Water Security, Climate Change, and Sustainable Development" during Vibrant Gujarat Summit-2015

Vibrant Gujarat is a mega investors' summit that is held by the Government of Gujarat in Gujarat, India. The first Vibrant Gujarat Summit was held in 2003 and since then it has been organised biennially. The preparation of 7th Vibrant Gujarat Summit, which is planned during 11th to 13th January 2015 have began well ahead by the Government of Gujarat after the Vibrant Gujarat 2013 Summit resounding success. Six summits held so far have contributed in transformation of Gujarat into a "Global Business Hub". The brand "Vibrant Gujarat" began as an "investors' summit" has now evolved into an ideal platform for knowledge sharing, social and business transformation.

The prime focus of Government of Gujarat is inclusive development and the key areas for development identified included: Physical & Social Infrastructure, Innovation, Sustainability, Youth & Skill Development, Knowledge Sharing and Networking. Also, this Summit is an ideal convergence for other states and other countries to showcase their strengths, highlight business opportunities, facilitate knowledge dissemination etc. It also provides an attractive opportunity to its participants to understand the potential of Gujarat in various sectors.

The Gujarat Water Supply and Sewerage Board (GWSSB) along with Water and Sanitation Management Organisation (WASMO), Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilisers & Chemicals Limited (GNFC) and Climate Change Department is organising a seminar "Water Security, Climate Change, and Sustainable Development” during the 7th Vibrant Gujarat Summit. The aforementioned seminar will be graced by international speakers from the water and climate change sectors; like Dr. R. K. Pachauri , Prof. Asit Biswas and Prof. Taikan Oki to name a few.

This Seminar is being organised under the Sustainability and Knowledge Building theme of Vibrant Gujarat 2015. It is aimed to:

  • Disseminate the message and information regarding climate change and sustainable water resource management as one of the significant strategies for Climate Change mitigation and adaptation.
  • Understand the challenges and obstacles in tackling climate change and water management in India and in Gujarat.
  • Strengthen the awareness front for the people regarding Water Security, Climate Change, Economic Development, and Standard of Living.
